iMagazines? iDon’t know.

Apple has yet to confirm the release date for the iPad, (most likely late March/early April) but magazine companies are gearing up for what just might be the future of print publications. These reading tablets are expected to usher in an era of digital magazines that has the struggling industry practically jumping for joy.

Condé Nast, publisher of Vogue, Vanity Fair, Wired and GQ, is preparing to set the bar for interactive magazines. The company will have GQ’s April issue ready to go as soon as the iPad launches, and a variety of its other successful titles will be released in the following months.

Although GQ already has a popular iPhone app, Condé’s plans for the iPad promise even more nifty features. It will offer the print content in easy, digital flip-page formats, but will also offer readers a truly interactive experience. You’ll be able to click on a product right in the layout and be taken directly to its purchasing website. By clicking a link in a music review, you’ll be able to download that song right to your iTunes. You’ll also find behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive video interviews! The issues will be sold on iTunes and subscriptions should be available via GQ.com.

These digital versions will probably be less expensive and they’ll definitely fit better in a purse! Plus the instant shopping features sound pretty cool. But am I the only one who’s not ready to say goodbye to flipping the colorful pages and holding the monthly issue in my hands!? What do you guys think? Are you ready to trade-up?!
